Beyond diameter and finish, our bollards come in two wall-thickness tiers: Standard (STD) and Extra Strong (XS). This is the choice that matters most for how much impact the bollard can actually absorb — it’s easy to overlook if you’re only comparing diameter and height. This page breaks down when each tier makes sense.
Standard vs. Extra Strong at a glance
| Standard (STD) | Extra Strong (XS) | |
|---|---|---|
| Wall thickness | Standard gauge | Heavier gauge |
| Impact resistance | Suited to routine, low-to-moderate impact | Built for higher-speed or heavier-vehicle impact |
| Typical setting | Storefronts, pedestrian areas, low-traffic parking | Loading docks, drive-through lanes, forklift aisles |
| Cost | Lower | Higher |
Choose Standard if:
- The site sees occasional, low-speed vehicle contact risk
- You’re protecting a storefront corner, walkway, or general parking area
- Budget is a bigger factor than maximum impact resistance
Choose Extra Strong if:
- The site has frequent vehicle or heavy-equipment traffic
- You’re protecting a loading dock, drive-through lane, or forklift aisle
- A previous bollard has bent or failed under impact at this location
Combining with diameter and finish
Strength tier, diameter, and finish are all independent choices — a small-diameter XS bollard is still available, just as a large-diameter STD bollard is. Match diameter to visibility and physical space, strength tier to expected impact force, and finish to indoor/outdoor exposure.
