Standard vs. Extra Strong Bollards — Which Size Do You Need?

Beyond diameter and finish, our bollards come in two wall-thickness tiers: Standard (STD) and Extra Strong (XS). This is the choice that matters most for how much impact the bollard can actually absorb — it’s easy to overlook if you’re only comparing diameter and height. This page breaks down when each tier makes sense.

Choose Standard if:

  • The site sees occasional, low-speed vehicle contact risk
  • You’re protecting a storefront corner, walkway, or general parking area
  • Budget is a bigger factor than maximum impact resistance

Choose Extra Strong if:

  • The site has frequent vehicle or heavy-equipment traffic
  • You’re protecting a loading dock, drive-through lane, or forklift aisle
  • A previous bollard has bent or failed under impact at this location

Combining with diameter and finish

Strength tier, diameter, and finish are all independent choices — a small-diameter XS bollard is still available, just as a large-diameter STD bollard is. Match diameter to visibility and physical space, strength tier to expected impact force, and finish to indoor/outdoor exposure.
